Critical Race Theory

In this episode Tim continues his discussion on communication in an age of diversity, equity, inclusion, and critical race theory, focusing more on critical race theory. Aside from the big stuff like slavery, Jim Crow laws, legalized segregation, and the civil rights movement, there have been other things that have gone on as well. We want to be able to address those things to be able to remedy them. Racial issues, racial animosity is taught, and because it is taught, there has to be some counter to untaught it. Or to teach something different. Our society has some room for improvement with diversity, equity, and inclusion. It can be done through effective communication, starting with enough guts to talk about it, to discuss it in a way that has an equilibrium of truth, and empathy. And it has to be done on a consistent, persistent basis.

Episode highlights:

03:41 – Redlining is when black people would have their neighborhoods devalued as the government, brokers, and real estate professionals worked in collusion, to disproportionately negatively affect the housing values of black people.

10:49 – A brief summary of Hillsdale College’s publication explaining critical race theory.

15:16 – Let’s explore some of the things that we have in our society, to see why we need to take into account culture and cultural differences.

22:33 – Our public-school systems need to be able to teach American history and the racial ramifications.

25:08 – In every society, they have what you call, seven mountains (family, religion, education, arts and entertainment, business, government, and media), which are pillars of society that everybody adheres. These are the drivers. These are the influencers of society.
