Interpersonal Engagement in Professional Sports with Katina Shaw
On this episode of the Communication Guru podcast, your host, Tim McMurtry II introduces Katina Shaw, Vice President of Community Relations & Family Liaison at Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club. Shaw joined the Brewers organization as a community relations assistant in 2006 after spending the previous seven years as market manager for the American Diabetes Association. She was promoted to community relations director in 2009 and named senior director in 2011.

11:20 – I serve as the liaison between the front office and the clubhouse; I work very closely with the guys, and with their families.
14:45 – When I took on this role, I said I was going to be very authentic. I was just going to be myself. And I’m very caring. I got that advice from a player: It would be nice if someone has the personal connection with us.
17:53 – I had to learn their personalities because I did not want to be in a position that I schedule the player for appearance and he was injured at the game the night before
22:40 - The Covid has impacted me greatly with building my relationship with players – I felt disconnected from the guys this past season, as well as their wives.
