Black Solidarity with Israel
In this episode, Tim welcomes Pastor Dumisani Washington, Founder and CEO of the Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel. Previously Washington served as the Diversity Outreach Coordinator for the over 10-million-member Christians United for Israel (CUFI). Dumisani is a pastor, professional musician, and an author whose latest book is the second edition of Zionism & the Black Church: Why Standing with Israel Will be a Defining Issue for Christians of Color in the 21st Century. They take a deeper dive into the nuances of alliance and relationship between people, groups, nations and cultures and the critical role that appropriate messaging and communication plays in strengthening or weakening alliances.
Tim and Dumisani discuss blending Sumasani’s skills together, the pandemic and its impact on people's relationship to the church, the biggest misconception about Israel, the support of black community to Israel, and insights regarding the alliances. Tim shares the first steps to find out more about the situation of Israel, impact and the problems caused and distinction between the terrorist state and the Palestenian.
Highlights:
21:32 That’s one of the ways the black community and the broader american society has been victimized because we don’t have access to the right history. We get a healthy dose of “here’s the bad things going on’. It makes people jaded, it makes them suspicious. Which is why our organization exists, hey no, let’s have a real conversation what’s going on
23:52 When you have some knowledge about something, especially if you see something going in the wrong direction, go ahead and introject that thing.
33:46 These organizations that do this kind of teaching and advocacy will give you tools, downloadable PDF files, videos, these types of things. I also recommend the other ones that do the advocacy, I know sometimes some folds have different feelings but it has a lot of good content.
37:21 Inform yourself, do a deep dive. You’re going to like what you see, you’re going to be challenged by what you see.
