A Chat with The Honorary Consulate Michael Fountain

For Episode 18, Tim is joined by the Honorary Consulate to the Commonwealth of Bahamas, Michael C. Fountain, to discuss real and relevant topics that hit hard but will leave you enlightened. They touch on topics such as the personal value of fatherhood and how it shapes one man as he becomes a father himself. Michael gives his view on the “dislike” of Africans and Afro-Caribbeans with African-Americans. They also talk about the youth as the future of Bahamas and how its leaders should shape the nation with them in mind.  Tim also asked Michael his thoughts on the diversity in social structure post-George Floyd. Michael closes on giving fruitful advice on getting into diplomacy pinning the value of respecting others who are different from you and how that has helped him even at home. Get fresh perspectives and take something with you after listening.

Episode highlights:

16:43 – Hey man, don’t look at your father as your dad all the time. See him as a man.

21:01 – Who is really African? Who is really black? Or any of the things that continue to separate or divide us.  Who has the better hair, who’s light or dark, or any of the things that… we have to stop. All I can tell you is if you’re not interested in working together, I just can’t work with you.

37:23 – We need to understand the issues faced by people who look like us.

40:47 - Relationship building and management, being a person of what I like to believe is merit, trustworthy, having integrity - these are the tenets of diplomacy.
